Welcome to Arkansas, Brian Burns!
The junior picked up a signature victory over the weekend, running 4:10.89 in the Mile at the Mizzou HS Distance Elite, shattering the previous Arkansas Indoor record.
Burns, a mid-year transfer from Missouri, is now attending Bentonville, adding to one of the already loaded distance rosters in the state. Earlier this winter, Burns won the 800m at the Arkansas HS Invitational, running 1:54.43, an AR #2.
Last fall, Burns was terrific, running under 16 minutes in three races and winning the Missouri Class 3 XC State Championships. Now, the Tigers' newest low-stick will be tasked with filling a few holes left behind as Bentonville loses its entire top five from last season.
Burns makes the move alongside his brother Sean Burns, a freshman who finished 11th in the Mile over the weekend, running 4:26.57, an AR #5 and fastest by a freshman.
Brian and Sean are the brothers of Connor Burns, who broke Galen Rupp's 19-year-old national high school record in the 5,000 meters, and the son of Marc Burns, who was hired as the University of Arkansas women's cross country coach in January.
