2025 AAA 2A Girls State Championship Recap
While the times weren't blazing by elite standards, the competition was fierce and the storylines rich, especially for Quitman High School, which captured its seventh 2A team title with a dominant pack performance, finishing with just 43 points to top Ozark Catholic and Acorn.
The individual race belonged to Audrey Bethea of Hampton, who cruised to a commanding win in 20:36.25, claiming the state title in wire-to-wire fashion. Behind her, Mylee Crow of Ouachita placed second in 21:05, followed closely by Olivia Prothro of Mountainburg in third with a 21:14. But it was Quitman's depth that made the difference on the team scoreboard. They placed three runners in the top 10, Madilyn Varvil (6th, 22:06), Baylee Gadberry (7th, 22:16), and Kendall Cullum (10th, 22:45), then sealed the win with Dakota Rhodes (16th) and Paislee Davis (27th) completing their scoring five. Impressively, Quitman's sixth and seventh runners also finished in the top 30, further showcasing their depth.

Ozark Catholic finished second with 88 points, led by Clare Pohlmeier (8th) and Keira Passantino (11th). Their consistency through the middle of the pack, including a top-25 from Colbie Lipsmeyer, helped them hold off Acorn, who finished third with 102 points. Acorn was led by Genevieve Simborio, who placed fourth individually in 21:48, and had a scoring five in the top 40.
Danville (128 points) and Magnet Cove (171) rounded out the top five teams, while Ouachita, led by runner-up Mylee Crow, landed in sixth overall.
While Oaklawn Park is best known for horses hitting the backstretch, the 2A girls runners delivered a championship morning full of effort, strategy, and small-school pride. The course may have been soft and the weather mild, but Quitman ran with purpose and left with hardware, proving once again that in Arkansas cross country, pack running wins championships.
2025 AAA 2A Boys Cross Country State Championship Recap
Ozark Catholic proved once again that they are the class of Arkansas 2A cross country. The Griffins backed up their 2024 title with another dominant performance, scoring just 37 points to secure back-to-back championships and reinforce their dynasty in the small school division.
Individually, however, it was Andrew Day of Parkers Chapel who stole the spotlight. Running solo for much of the race, Day charged across the line in 17:34.54, earning the individual state title in a race that saw no sub-17 times but plenty of tactical racing and strong finishes. Behind him, Ben Frederick of Ozark Catholic repeated his All-State form from last year with a second-place finish in 18:02.05, improving from fourth in 2024 and helping pace his team to another title. Rounding out the podium was Ethan Manus of Mountainburg, who followed up a 5th-place finish last year with third overall this time around in 18:14.01.
Also making a strong impression was Jerico Feijoo of Danville, who ran a gutsy race to finish fourth in 18:16.46, while Ozark Catholic's pack continued to do the heavy lifting. Liam Burney (5th), Wyatt Holmes (6th), Paul Jacobo (10th), and Mason Weisenfels (14th) all scored in the top 15 for Ozark Catholic, once again showing that the Griffins win not just with talent, but with depth and discipline.

Team Summary: Ozark Catholic Repeats as Champions
Ozark Catholic continues to redefine dominance in Arkansas small-school cross country. After posting 20 points in 2024 with a 2:25 split, the Griffins came back this fall and posted 37 points, still well ahead of the competition despite graduating several of last year's top five. They were led by returning senior Ben Frederick (2nd) and flanked by rising talents like Liam Burney (5th) and Wyatt Holmes (6th). With a 1-5 spread of just 1:20 and all five scorers inside the top 15, they cruised to a repeat title.
St. Joseph (Conway) rose to second place with 100 points, placing three runners in the top 25, led by Travis Jackson (9th) and Vince Porcaro (13th). Their strong pack and improvement from a 4th-place finish in 2024 made them clear podium contenders this time around.
Caddo Hills took third with 128 points, led by Cole Naney (7th) and Brodie Lenard (11th). While they weren't able to challenge Ozark Catholic for the title like they did in 2024, the team showed impressive consistency with all five scorers in the top 40.
Sloan-Hendrix (135 points) and Mountainburg (164 points) rounded out the top five, the latter led again by Ethan Manus, who is quickly building a legacy of his own after back-to-back top-five finishes.
2025 AAA 3A Girls State Cross Country Championship Recap
It was another year, another dominant performance for Providence Academy as they stormed to their second consecutive 3A state title at the 2025 AAA State Cross Country Championships. The Providence girls raced with the precision and pace of thoroughbreds, sweeping the front of the field and finishing with a near-perfect team score of 20 points.
Leading the charge was senior Gabbie Bishop, who cemented her legacy as one of the most dominant runners in Arkansas small-school history. After winning the title in 2024 with a time of 17:47, Bishop returned even faster this year, cruising to her second consecutive individual state title in a stunning 17:28.70, nearly a full minute ahead of the field. Her younger sister, Maggie Bishop, a sophomore, followed in second place for the second straight year, finishing in 18:25.20. Together, the Bishop duo set the tone for a Providence team that put five runners in the top 10 and seven in the top 20.
Behind the Bishops, junior Layla Maline (4th, 20:36), senior Hollynn Mosley (5th, 20:57), and sophomore Jane Adams (9th, 21:57) rounded out the scoring five. Providence's sixth and seventh runners, Gretta McElmurry (16th) and Allison Till (20th), were not far behind, demonstrating the team's depth and consistency across the board.

Team Results Recap - Providence Dominates Again
With a team score of just 20 points, Providence Academy repeated as 3A girls state champions, lowering their team average from 2024 (19:40) to an even more impressive 19:29 in 2025. Their 1-5 spread of just 4:28 shows how tightly their top runners packed the front of the field, a strategy that has made them nearly unbeatable in back-to-back seasons.
Genoa Central took home the runner-up trophy with 98 points, led by Presley Rogers (6th) and Lily Douglas (15th). The Dragons put all five scorers in the top 35 to hold off Central Arkansas Christian (CAC), who placed third with 114 points, thanks to top-10 finisher Jesse Withrow (7th) and a tight 3-5 pack.
Maumelle Charter, in just their second year as a serious contender, placed fourth with 122 points behind standout Mia McFarland (3rd). Meanwhile, Rison (179) and Cave City (185) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with solid finishes from Jazzlyn Price (21st) and Britney Mahan (10th).
With only one senior in their top five, Providence Academy's dynasty looks far from over. As Gabbie Bishop graduates, her younger sister and a strong supporting cast remain poised to chase a third consecutive title in 2026. Whether it's individual brilliance or elite-level depth, Providence continues to set the standard in Arkansas 3A cross country.
2025 AAA 3A Boys State Cross Country Championship Recap
After finishing runner-up at the 2024 AAA 3A Boys State Championship, Providence Academy flipped the script this time, capturing the 3A state title behind a tightly packed top five and a standout performance from sophomore Dathan Haberstroh.
But the story of the day on the individual side belonged to Caleb McFarland of Maumelle Charter. The junior came into the meet as the 2024 runner-up and left no doubt this year, pulling away early and never looking back. He crossed the line in 16:17.80, shaving over a minute off his previous state time and becoming the 3A individual state champion in dominant fashion. McFarland's victory marked a major personal leap from last season and set the tone for Maumelle Charter's push to the team podium.
Providence Academy's Haberstroh held strong in second with a 16:37 finish, followed closely by Dover's Jacob Sparlin (17:07), who earned his second straight top-three state finish. Maumelle Charter's Roth Williamson (4th, 17:11) and Providence's Winston Harp (5th, 17:19) rounded out a loaded front pack of returners, many of whom also finished in the top 10 a year ago.

Team Results Recap - Providence Academy Takes the Crown
After finishing second by just five points last year, Providence Academy completed its climb to the top, capturing the 2025 3A team title with 55 points. They were led by Haberstroh's runner-up finish and a tight supporting group in Winston Harp (5th), Joseph Brooks (11th), Noah Marble (16th), and Nathan Vandehoef (23rd). Their 1-5 split was just 2:54, a testament to their depth and consistency.
Last year's champion, Maumelle Charter, settled for second this time with 89 points, led by individual champ McFarland and solid scoring from Williamson (4th), Eli Wilson (10th), Griffin Meeks (21st), and John Rose (54th). Despite having three runners in the top 10, they lacked the closing depth needed to hold off Providence's charge.
Jessieville rounded out the podium with 113 points, putting three runners in the top 25 and five in the top 35, including Tristen Rodgers (7th) and James Dundee (14th). Their performance continued a steady rise for the program, improving from 4th place last season.
Providence Academy now sits atop 3A with a deep, battle-tested squad and a state title to its name. With only one senior in their scoring five, they're poised to remain at the top in 2026. Meanwhile, McFarland's return for his senior year ensures the individual crown will have a fierce defender. The 3A boys' field is brimming with talent - and next season's race is already shaping up to be another classic.
2025 4A Girls State Cross Country Championship Recap
The 2025 AAA 4A Girls State Championship delivered a mix of familiar faces and new standouts as Heber Springs junior Riley Farris surged to the front and never looked back, claiming the individual state title in 19:52.03. Running strong from the gun, Farris dropped the field early and became the only girl in the race to break 20 minutes, stamping herself as the top runner in 4A this fall.
Behind her, Episcopal Collegiate's Virginia Brantley took runner-up honors in 20:47.92, improving on her 7th-place finish from last season. Brantley led the charge for an Episcopal squad that once again claimed the 4A team title, this time with a score of 79 points. Episcopal's success came from a consistent front five, with Claire Lammers (10th), Lili Norman (14th), Emma Chiles (22nd), and Lila Smart (36th) helping to secure back-to-back state championships for the program. Though not as dominant as last year's 37-point performance, their depth and pack running made the difference in a more competitive field.
Pulaski Academy's Alice Crum, last year's 4th-place finisher, matched her strong state presence again, finishing third overall in 21:06.87, just a tenth of a second ahead of Heber Springs sophomore Lea Monk. Ellie Echols of Arkadelphia also impressed with her second straight top-five finish, placing fifth in 21:23.84, nearly matching her 2024 time.

Team Race Recap - Episcopal Collegiate Goes Back-to-Back
Despite graduating multiple seniors from last year's championship squad, Episcopal Collegiate proved its depth runs deep, capturing its second straight 4A girls team title. With four runners in the top 22 and a scoring average just over 22 minutes, the Wildcats held off a strong challenge from Heber Springs, who scored 114 points for runner-up honors. Farris' individual win, paired with Monk (4th) and Sarina Mays (19th), gave Heber Springs a powerful top three, but their 1-5 spread of over four minutes made it difficult to keep pace with Episcopal's tighter pack.
Shiloh Christian placed third with 133 points, led by a trio of top-15 finishes from Blakely Billings (8th), Hannah Russell (9th), and Ella Russell (13th), while Pottsville and Pulaski Academy rounded out the top five with 162 and 190 points, respectively. Both teams returned several key runners from last year's top-five finishes and remained consistent threats throughout the season.
Episcopal's ability to reload and compete at the top year after year reinforces its place as a dynasty in Arkansas 4A girls' cross country. With young scorers returning, including Brantley, Norman, and Chiles, a three-peat in 2026 isn't out of the question.
2025 4A Boys State Cross Country Championship Recap
The 2025 AAA 4A Boys State Championship featured fierce competition and a standout individual performance as Shiloh Christian's Brice Allen stormed to victory in 16:01.71, the fastest time of the day across all 4A classifications. Allen controlled the race from the front and pulled away from the field with confidence, helping to anchor a dominant showing from the Saints. Right behind him was defending state champion and teammate Matthew Thurman, who finished runner-up in 16:33.83, a near match of his winning time from 2024. The duo gave Shiloh a decisive 1-2 punch that no other team could counter.
Pottsville's Ethan Lacy (3rd, 16:55.82) and Eli Moudy (4th, 17:03.85) repeated as top-five finishers, showcasing their program's consistency at the front of big races. Miller Crum of Pulaski Academy broke up the team packs with a strong solo effort, placing 5th in 17:12.63. Rounding out the individual top ten were standout performances from Carson Herron (6th) and Cooper Sudduth (10th) of Shiloh, Gravette's Paxon Chernota (7th) and Isaac Nichols (9th), and Pea Ridge's Cruz Porter and Ryan Lewis, who finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Allen's victory and Thurman's consistency over the past two seasons represent one of the strongest individual 1-2 finishes in recent 4A history, and set the tone for what would become a commanding team win.

4A Boys Team Championship Summary - Shiloh Christian Claims the Crown
After finishing third in a tightly contested team battle in 2024, Shiloh Christian flipped the script in 2025 and ran away with the 4A boys title, scoring 43 points behind an incredible top-five that included four runners in the top 10. Allen (1st), Thurman (2nd), Herron (6th), and Sudduth (10th) provided the firepower, while Max Fraser (25th) sealed the deal with a strong fifth-man performance. The Saints delivered the most complete team performance of the day, moving up from their 72-point finish in 2024 and reasserting themselves as the dominant force in 4A.
Pottsville, last year's team champion, took second with 65 points, with a strong front three of Lacy, Moudy, and Blalock (12th). However, Shiloh's 1-2 edge up front and tighter pack proved to be the difference. Pea Ridge finished third (98 points), powered by four top-20 finishes led by Cruz Porter (11th) and Ryan Lewis (12th). Gravette, who placed second a year ago, followed closely in fourth with 99 points, again displaying solid depth with all five scorers in the top 40.
DeQueen (147 points) and Heber Springs (205 points) rounded out the top six, each featuring rising underclassmen and showing promising signs for future seasons. For Shiloh Christian, the 2025 title is a statement win-one that marks not just a single-year triumph, but the rise of a new team dynasty in Arkansas 4A cross country.
