Frick Files: Nine Notes from Early Season Racing

You Won't Want to Miss the 2A Girls Race at State

It was a tight race between Quitman and Dierks at the 2A state meet last season and this season might be even tighter.

While Quitman and Dierks finished 1st and 2nd at state last fall, enter Ozark Catholic, who finished 3rd in 1A last season. The Griffins returned all of their top finishers from last year's state race and are legitimate threats to the top schools from last season.

Danville, who is coming down from 3A and finished 10th at state last season, is another school that could find themselves in the mix on race day.

The individual race is sure to be a good one as well as we are promised a new champion.

Olivia Prothro finished 3rd last season and has run the fastest time (20:37.80) in the classification this year. Audrey Bethea has also run under 21 minutes this season and could be chasing the junior from Mountainburg.

The twins from Dierks, Carlee and Kalee Mounts, finished 2nd and 4th at state last season and should be in the mix for an individual title once again, while Clare Pohlmeier, Madilyn Varvil, and Jaylie Gibbs are just a few others that will also play a role in the 2A championship race.
