Frick Files: Nine Notes from Early Season Racing

Lilly Beshears AND Rogers Can Qualify for Postseason Meets

The Rogers girls began the season ranked 22nd on the Milesplit National Rankings for good reason. So far this season, the Mounties have had 7 girls run 19:00 or faster, with their top 5 averaging 18:03.06 for 5K.

After finishing 6th at NXR South last season, the girls team made their goals abundantly clear; not only do they want to defend their state title, but they want a berth to Portland.

The girls are led by Lilly Beshears who won the Chile Pepper Festival in 16:40.40, which is a US #8 time this season. While Rogers looks poised to be a top contender at any postseason race they compete in, Beshears could very well qualify on her own.

The junior has already demonstrated her endurance on the grass this season and has the middle distance speed (2:16/4:58) to track down anybody at the end of the race. I would not be surprised if Beshears grabs even more national headlines through November and beyond.

Kayla Eggers, who has run 17:59.30 this season, has not raced in over a month and her absence has been noticeable. Fortunately for the Mounties, even in her absence, there is still enough starpower to achieve their goals.

Regardless of what happens for Rogers this season, they will have at least one more shot to qualify for NXN as their entire top 7 returns next season.
